You can be refused entry permission if you:

  • are not a genuine visitor
  • do not meet our character criteria
  • have had a change in circumstances since you were granted a visa
  • refuse to let us take your photo or to provide us with your fingerprints or an iris scan
  • cannot provide evidence of any onward travel or funds required to leave New Zealand.

Before you travel make sure you carry all the documentation you need with you.

You may not be allowed to check in to your flight if your passport is close to expiring. Check that it will not expire while you are in New Zealand or close to when you plan to leave New Zealand.

With a multiple entry Visitor Visa, you have the flexibility to visit New Zealand as a tourist numerous times, with a maximum cumulative stay of up to 6 months within any 12-month period.

The 12-month timeframe is calculated backward from your intended departure date, the last day you plan to be in New Zealand.

For instance, if your intended departure date is December 1, 2024, then your 12-month period starts on December 1, 2023.

To qualify for this visa, you must have spent at least 9 months out of New Zealand during the 18-month period preceding your application.

If you plan to visit New Zealand for over 6 months or extend your current 6-month stay, you may be eligible for a single entry Visitor Visa. This visa permits a one-time entry into New Zealand, allowing you to stay for up to 9 months within an 18-month period.

The 18-month timeframe is calculated backward from your intended departure date, the last day you intend to be in New Zealand.

For instance, if your intended departure date is December 1, 2024, then your 18-month period starts on June 1, 2023.
